ALY first participation at the 12th Economic Freedom of the Arab World Conference:”How to Increase the Freedom of Trade in the Arab Countries”

ALY North Africa coordinator participated among 24 participants from ALF members and 22 from AYUFD members including the members of the executive offices to the 12th Economic Freedom of the Arab World Conference. The conference took place between November 23 – 26, 2017 at Golden Tulip El Meshtel Hotel in Tunis.
ALY North Africa coordinator also participated as an observer in the General Assembly and the executive committee meetings (AYUFD). ALY and AYUFD agreed to draft a program for 2018 where peers from both organisations can meet and exchange best practises.

Afek Tunis : is a centre right political party in TUNISIA. They have a loberal program focusing secularism and civil liberties. The party mainly appealed to intellectuals and the upper class.
VVD is a political party founded on the liberal philosophy. Its aim is to further the free intellectual and social development of each individual, without making distinctions according to religious or ideological conviction, nationality, sex, race, colour of skin or language. Central to its beliefs is freedom of choice for everyone.
Trade is declining in the region and intensified by the existence of several limitations such as barriers, wars, closed borders, political turmoil. Add to that all the financial difficulties limiting the volume of importations. The trade between the countries of the Maghreb is less than 4% of foreign trade. The Pan Arab trade is very low and must be redressed. The politics remain vital and important to boost the Pan Arab trade.
Economic freedom build prosperity as it changes the dynamics and identity of societies of any region. The market competition is important because with choice we produce better quality goods and services. Economic freedom changes the psychology of society. It is important to note that the concentration of political and economic powers in the hands of elites generate divide along sectarian, religious, social lines etc.

The 2017 report on economic freedom in the Arab world.
The 2017 report on economic freedom in the Arab world measures economic freedom based on the levels of personal choice, ability to enter markets, security of privately owned property, rule of law and few other dynamics. This happens by analysing the policies and the mechanisms of some institutions of Arab countries and territories. The 2017 report is based on data from 2015, the most recent year of available comparable statistics.
The report measures the extent to which citizens of the Arab League countries make their own economic choices without limitations,barriers imposed by the government and other autorities.
